Peter Lalor (1827 - 1889) fled from the hunger and misery of Ireland, which was ruled by England in his youth. He headed for the goldfields of Victoria, along with other family members, in search of a better life. He was shocked to find that Governor Hotham ruled the goldfields with an iron fist, so Peter became the leader of the famous Eureka Rebellion.
