The Election

Those of you who have read Henry Parkes will know that he treated them in a somewhat cavalier fashion. Several times he resigned within days of winning the contest, usually due to the pressures of bankruptcy!.And, when he wanted to get back into parliament, he didnt hesitate to stand for election in Western or Northern New South Wales - representing his electorate being one of the least of his objectives. a graph of his political fortunes would be as craggy as the Blue Mountains in which he is buried. The old saying that a week is a long time in politics certainly applied to him.As for an election in Mid September - that's certainly a long time in politics!!
