Australia Day

I must confess that I'm not a flag waving person, but I don't mind Australia. I count myself lucky to have been born here, of a Scottish father and an Australian mother whose parents were Irish and German. Henry Parkes, Father of our Federation, was lucky to get here. He was just about to spend his last few pounds on a ticket to America when he was handed a free ticket to NSW under an assisted migrant scheme. Australia Day is not a time for thinking ourselves superior, but for reflecting on the various streams of good luck that has brought us all here. I hope my books help people understand a bit more about who we are and where we came from.
And you really have to look at this video which is about the descendants of the utopian migration to Paraguay in which Mary Gilmore took part.
