I sometimes hear comments from teachers that their students can get information about the characters on our bank notes from the internet. But looking up facts (wrongly called 'research') doesn't necessarily engage the student. Our Aussie Notables titles, as well as earlier ones, endeavour to involve young readers with the characters.
"Much of the story telling has disappeared from our crowded curriculum, and I feel this is what you have done so well, both in written and oral form. This is what the students remember and it excites them to want to learn more. Thanks again for the informative and often moving talk that you gave. More schools need to use your books as a basis for learning."
